Mar 25, 2016 at 18:26 comment added Blake Wait this isn't quiet what I'm looking for. I care about the embedding and the geometry of $M / \sim$, not just the topology. The circle $S^1 \subset \mathbb{R}^2$ also has a trivial tangent bundle, yet it's normals vary more than $90^{\circ}$. The normal spaces still have to vary as you travel along a path along the handle of the Clifford torus.
