Sep 19, 2015 at 10:46 comment added HJRW Part of the trouble is that the proofs that linear isoperimetric inequality implies hyperbolic in the literature are either over-complicated or non-constructive. The cleanest proof, due to Drutu, uses the asymptotic cone, so doesn't give a computable constant.
Sep 18, 2015 at 20:54 comment added Ian Agol A useless comment: there is some relation, since there are only finitely many groups of bounded rank with a fixed hyperbolicity constant, and finitely many groups with a maximum length relator. So in principle, one is a function of the other.
