Homorphism of Legendre curve

Let E be an elliptic curve over a finite field k (char(k) is not 2) be given by y^2 = (x-a)(x-b)(x-c) where a,b and c are distinct and are in k. Then why is (c,0) is in [2]E(k) iff c-a and c-b is a square in k-{0}?
