I am sure that I thought about it in the context of quotient topology when I learned it. Indeed, I had discussions with John Hollingsworth when i was an undergraduate student about what was needed to describe gluing. The answer is in the appendix to Massey's intro to alg. topology book --- the one that concentrates on the fundamental group. | |
