The spectral sequence comes from taking an increasing filtration of $EG$, and this gives an inverse tower of ring spectra; the higher lines come from elements which go to zero when you restrict to smaller and smaller skeleta of $EG$. | |

Don't we have that the square of class on the 1-line lies on the 2-line, modulo elements coming from below the 2-line? Or have I got the direction of my filtration backwards? | |
