To see it in $\mathbb{R}^2$ you can cancel the terms of the form $(\partial^2 f/\partial x_i^2)^2$ from both sides and then judiciously apply integration by parts to each of the remaining terms: this results in a portion that cancels (as $f$ is compactly supported) and the integral of the product of a first and third derivative. | |
