Jul 27, 2014 at 20:23 comment added Nathaniel Johnston I believe that the idea is to let n grow but fix r. Then $\sqrt{r}$ is smaller than $\log(n)$, and the question is whether or not we can do better than $\sqrt{r}$ (e.g., $\log(r)$).
