Mar 9, 2010 at 1:31 comment added Ben Webster I don't think it's really accurate to say the symplectic Lie group can also be realized as a unitary group over the quaternions. There's a real form of the symplectic group which is the unitary matrices over the quaternions, but "symplectic group" has a meaning and that is not it.
