Of course, this depends on the knot, which you can easily see by writing down Poincar\'e duality and appropriate exact sequences. E.g., if you start with $S^2\times S^1$, you can get back $S^3$ or, by choosing a trivial knot, you can further increase the Betti numbers. | |
