I am pretty sure the LHS s.s. is the same as the appropriate change-of-rings s.s. For example, in Hochschild cohomology (which is the situation I was interested in) the differentials are cup products with the a sequence of characteristic classes of the algebra extension, generalizing the class in $H^2$ described originally by Hochschild. | |
