Jan 22, 2013 at 7:58 | comment | added | IMeasy | you know what? I did this last week and my friend-editor was quite puzzled... he suggested to write and write again to the editor. I hope he can try to do something, maybe talk to the managing editor.
Jan 21, 2013 at 16:35 | comment | added | Lasse Rempe | If you know some of the other editors, it seems like it would be perfectly reasonable to contact them. Make sure to be diplomatic, because you don't want to come across as impatient or unreasonable, but you do have a right to expect a response to your communications from the editor, even if it is just a short "we are still waiting to hear from the referee". Good luck!
Jan 17, 2013 at 21:15 | comment | added | IMeasy | @Lasse: I am a quite estabilished and tenured mathematician. I know some of the other editors, I may try in fact to contact them. thanks for the suggestion. @quid: you're right. I will mend this.
Jan 17, 2013 at 16:06 | comment | added | user9072 | It seems better to include such an "update" via an edit in the question, rather than by giving an answer.
Jan 17, 2013 at 16:03 | comment | added | Lasse Rempe | To not have had contact from the editor seems irregular. It sounds like a tricky situation. I'm not sure what your situation is - if you are a recent PhD student, have you spoken to your supervisor? They might be able to contact someone at the journal on your behalf.
