Jun 25, 2012 at 17:53 comment added HorizonsMaths The imbeddings $W^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^n)\hookrightarrow L^q(\mathbb{R}^n),1<q<p^∗$ are just continuous. If you replace the euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^n$ by a bounded domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ then you have compact imbeddings.
