Software for symbolic matrix calculus?
It seems as though Mathematica has some functionality for this: forums.wolfram.com/mathgroup/archive/2000/Feb/msg00451.html I don't know about general functions though, but it seems like it can handle it. |

Where does a math person go to learn quantum mechanics?
I would definitely agree with this. There are a lot of very important results in QM that won't mean anything to you unless you have some intuitive sense of what they relate to in the real world. One obvious example that comes to mind is quantum numbers, which mainly arise to prevent unphysical results in equations, such as diverging exponentials. |

Algebraic square root question
Can you not just give the smaller polynomial 0 coefficients to make the matrices the same size? |

Math keyboard: does it exist ?
When I was typing stuff up on Word, back when I was using Windows (I know, and I know), I set up Greek as my other keyboard layout. The beauty about it is that you can press alt+shift and it switches the layout between your languages. I never know you could use Greek characters in LaTeX though. Must check it out. |

LaTeX based document editors
I found it while looking at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_TeX_editors . That's a pretty good list of editors with their strengths and weaknesses clearly shown. |
