Philosophy behind Mochizuki's work on the ABC conjecture
No offence was meant by adding the preamble, but I see now that I have overstepped the mark. It was rude of me to place that above the answer. I am reminded of the maxim "Never put yourself above others". |

Tensor analysis/Differential forms outside physics
Do you count medical imaging, computer vision, pattern-recognition, computer graphics, signal-processing and control-theory as outside physics ? Possibly using discrete-differential-geometry and partial-difference equations instead of continuous versions. |

New arXiv procedures?
... If publication counts don't distinguish between papers that are highly original and papers that restate things in a different way then that just shows the limitations of using publication counts as a measure of anything. |

New arXiv procedures?
When a performer performs the same concert in different venues to different audiences, is that self-plagiarism ? What about an academic writing about the same stuff in different venues for different audiences with perhaps a different emphasis. Why should every paper be a presentation of new results ? If all such papers are aggregated from different venues into a single venue then it looks like "self-plagiarism" but that phrase is an ungenerous judgement about motives. The arXiv is a repository, not a venue. Just like YouTube has multiple "copies" of the same stuff from different venues. ... |
