covering circles disks with smaller circlesdisks

show/hide this revision's text 2 I have changed all incorrect earlier uses of the word "circle", to now read "disk", and removed a tag as suggested.

How many circles disks with radius 1/2 are needed to cover a circle disk with radius 1? It certainly cannot be done with less than 5 small circlesdisks, and some non-rigorous drawings of mine suggest it can be done with 7 small circlesdisks. Can it be done with less?

Slightly more generally, can anybody point me in the direction of any work on covering bounded bodies with circlesdisks? Am i right in thinking that covering circles disks with smaller circles disks is the most inefficient kind of covering?
