Laplace's equation is the fundamental example of a PDE. If I could broaden the question to allow a triumvirate of examples, I'd say Laplace's equation, the heat equation, and the wave equation as are the canonical examples of PDEs, representing elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations respectively. |
