I would expand the question "What are some good papers that debunk common myths...?" to include web pages as well as papers. Naturally, there is a couple of candidate web pages in the reference section of the note mentioned by sigfpe. Another candidate might be http://www.snopes.com/science/nobel.asp where the myth of the rivalry between A. Nobel and Mittag-Leffler is (partially) debunked (to some extent).
