I'm inclined to call this a duplicate of mathoverflow.net/questions/77504/… –  S. Carnahan Jun 12 '12 at 7:14
Hopefully, with enough duplicates of this question, an amazing book on Shimura varieties will appear. Somewhere on the XXX-th duplicate, the answer will simply be "yes: ..., it is both introductory and advanced, ..., best book written ever, ..., special thanks go to everyone who asked about this on Mathoverflow, ...". –  Dror Speiser Jun 12 '12 at 7:28
