Hello

I just want to understand how Kerber in his book the representation theory of symmetric group , (p96, 2.9), calculate the restrictions

res_{S4xS1xS1} \zeta^{3,2,1} of character represented by partition [3,2,1] on the young subgroup S4xS1xS1, and also on S3xS2xS1 etc..(2.9.10).

I understand the theory but it's just a question about the restriction on a subgroup, in the particular case of the permutation group.

In case you are wondering why this was closed, it's not clear to me exactly what you are asking (what sort of answer would satisfy you), and the topic seems a little specific. By the way, I assume this is the book by James and Kerber? – Henry Cohn Feb 5 2012 at 17:22
