How can I use the root-space-decomposition of the Symplectic Lie-algebra, as it appears here: link text

in order to prove that this Lie-algebra is simple?

I'm mainly interested in the cases l=2,4 .

Any help will be greatfuly acknowledged.

Thanks

I think this question would be more appropriate at math.stackexchange.com or one of the other sites listed in the FAQ. – S. Carnahan Jan 14 2012 at 12:23

Hi Jack, This question reads a bit like a homework question from a (probably grad-level) Lie theory course. That might be one reason why it's likely to be closed as "too localized". If this is in fact a homework problem, then I highly encourage to work on it with other students in the class. If it is not a homework problem, nevertheless another place (in addition to the sites linked in the FAQ) to look for suggestions are the other students in your program. (Actually, they're my favorite resource for research questions that are MO-appropriate.) – Theo Johnson-Freyd Jan 14 2012 at 19:26
@Theo, you ask Jack's program students research questions? – Mariano Suárez-Alvarez Jan 15 2012 at 0:11
Thank you all... I'll indeed continue trying to solve it by myself ! – jason mfash Jan 15 2012 at 6:53
