Hi Guys, I'm some applied math students. I have classmates who starts to learn matrix analysis with me, but after one semester's beginning course, he can solve very difficult eigenvalue problems. I observe that he can quickly find how to form certain structure of matrix that have special properties. (like to find the inverse of a matrix just by starring at it)

I think I am not stupid, but I couldn't do the way good pure math student do. I suspect there should be some good way of thinking maths questions.

Can pure math student give me some idea how they usually approach problems? (like if you guys would do problems list, or how you guys would play with problems?)

Thank you.

I think that if you read the FAQ mathoverflow.net/faq#whatnot you will see why this kind of question, while fine for one's own blog, is not really suitable for MO – Yemon Choi Nov 4 2011 at 1:44
