Physics has had great speakers and popularizers (Carl Sagan would be the first to come to my mind). Mathematics, on the other hand, seems to be short on this. At least that is my impression... Or am I wrong?

List good math speakers and/or popularizers you know...

I am a mathematician. And I heard this opinion about physics from other fellow mathematicians. Why close this topic? Being able to capture the mind of the general population and explain our "art" would be amazing! Paulo Ribenboim once said that one day we will go to a concert hall but instead of listening to a Beethoven symphony, we would learn about the latest discoveries about prime numbers. I just want to know if this day has already come! – expmat Sep 25 2011 at 16:48

Meta thread for further discussion meta.mathoverflow.net/discussion/1146/… @expmat: in case you do not know signup for meta is trivial and instant. Just click on apply for membership after following the link. For best--good see my earlier comment. The part you mention relative to physics is not what I am worried about; also cf earlier comment. – quid Sep 25 2011 at 17:18
