I solved my research problem during my PhD, but that is about it. I almost didn't take any courses, didn't attend conferences or talks, haven't learn on my own much outside the area of my problem, a very narrow one.

My question is: Is it possible, to pick up this career from where it is and make it a fairly successful one (in research)?

Sounds like you really want to be doing some other kind of work. – unknown (yahoo) Aug 3 2011 at 5:43

Anything is possible. But that doesn't make this an appropriate topic for MO. I suggest talking to someone in person about this rather than playing this out on an on-line forum. I'm voting to close. – Ryan Budney Aug 3 2011 at 5:48
