It helps if you have had some contact with them during coursework/tutorials. But it is certainly not a necessary condition.</p>
<p>The most important thing to remember is that Professors are people, too! They want to help undergraduates learn. They want to guide their education in whatever way they can. That is one of the main motivating factors in an often solitary academic landscape - the belief that their knowledge is being put to good use.</p>
